Could be alignment, could be tire pressure, could be dragging disk pads, could be that your steering wheel/column is not quite centered. Does the car want to track down the road straight or does it drift to one side or the other? Check on a perfectly level road. While not exactly a scientific method, it will give you a general idea. If it drifts, apply very light pressure to the brakes. Does the drift get worse? If the drift gets worse, you probably have either a dragging brake pad or an inbalance in tire pressure. If the drift doesn’t get worse, probably alignment. If the car wants to track straight ahead, you probably just have a misaligned steering wheel/column – an irritant at worst. >2. Clutch? When I switch gears, I have the clutch ALL the way to the floor >and it makes grinding sounds at times. This doesnt happend consistantly >though, and the grinding isnt to bad.
Could be a clutch adjustment or the synchronizers. Since most clutches today are automatically adjusting, guess that leaves the synchromesh assembly…. Better check with a garage… >3. When I first start my truck up it makes this clicking noise. It comes >from the engine. After awhile most of the time it stops. Sometimes I still >hear it for a while after..
A bomb with a faulty fuse? Or an extremely small leak in the exhause manifold that tends to close off once the metal gets hot and starts expanding. I’d go with an exhaust leak… >4. There are "spots" on the rims. They kind of look like water spots….. >only difference is they wont come off.
What kind of rims? Have you tried Pledge? That’s what I use on the water spots on my coffee table… Then again, perhaps some fine-grained emery cloth would do the trick… >If anyone could help me with any of the above questions, i’d greatly >appreciate it! >PS: Please reply to my email as I dont check the newsgroup that often. >Thanks, >Matt
Hmmmm… if you wanted your answers via e-mail, that’s probably how you should have posted your question. HOWEVER, since you posted via the newsgroups, guess where your response came from! Raymond Sirois SysOp: The Lost Chord BBS 607-733-5745 telnet://thelostchord.dns2go.com:6000

Hello, I have some questions. I have a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 and Im trying to diagnose some problems I am having with it. 1. Alignment? My steering wheel doesnt seem quite right. If the wheel is perfectly centered.. it veers to the left. I have to turn it a little right to go completly straight. On the express way this is MUCH more noticable at higher speeds. 2. Clutch? When I switch gears, I have the clutch ALL the way to the floor and it makes grinding sounds at times. This doesnt happend consistantly though, and the grinding isnt to bad. 3. When I first start my truck up it makes this clicking noise. It comes from the engine. After awhile most of the time it stops. Sometimes I still hear it for a while after.. 4. There are "spots" on the rims. They kind of look like water spots….. only difference is they wont come off. If anyone could help me with any of the above questions, i’d greatly appreciate it! PS: Please reply to my email as I dont check the newsgroup that often. Thanks, Matt
