Question:
Thanks for the info, I think I’ve talked myself out of this truck, to many things about the engine swap that I just have to take on his word. Looks like I’ll be keeping my Ramcharger for a while. Oops can I say that word in here

If I remember correctly, it was about that year that GM came out with the 5 Spd revamp of the old cast iron Borg Warner, and called it the NVG 4500. It could be had with either the 4.3 or 350, as an option. If so, then you could have either. The lighter aluminum 5 Spd also available, was an option for the 350 as well. It has had some durability problems in the past, I think it is a bushing in the case that goes wrong , and is not available as a part, except in a remanufactured tranny. Hard to say, if you will have troubles later on. You can easily identify which tranny it is by first gear. I’m looking at buying a 1990 K1500, and not knowing much about Chevrolet transmission I have some questions. The truck originally had a 4.3 in it, but wanting more power the owner replaced the motor with a 350 out of an ‘89 chevy van. He replaced the radiator also, so cooling isn’t a problem, I’m just wondering about the transmission. Would the 5-speed behind the 4.3 be the same as the one behind a 350. I’m planning on pulling a small travel trailer and would hate to leave pieces of the tranny somewhere in Colorado… Thanks Tim Before you buy.
